Two schools of jazz, it has always seemed to me, sum up summertime: the balmy bossa novas of Gilberto, Jobim and co, and the sizzling gypsy guitar/swing violin combo of Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club de France. The two styles come together on this lovely CD by French accordionist and singer Ludovic Beier and his band of two guitars plus percussionist. All but one of the tunes are by Reinhardt, but are played in a laid-back fashion like the great bossas, though the accordion ensures that they retain their Gallic charms.
